Workshop Epoxy Floor | A workshop is as it states, a place of work. And if that is dirty work like a car garage, it can be difficult to see the floor for oil and grease that has built up over many years.
What will Oil build up harm?
Apart from looking very dirty, oil build up on an untreated concrete floor can become a slip hazard. According to the HSE website, slips and trips are the most common cause of major injuries at work. Around 90% of these are broken bones. The costs to industry are substantial (over £500million per year) and there is incalculable human cost and suffering to those injured.
Small amounts of oil can be removed from the surface of a floor if caught in time. However, a contaminated / oil infused (where the oil has soaked into) floor is not easy to clean.
Easy To Clean Workshop Epoxy Floor
Floor cleaning is key in controlling many slip and trip accidents because floor surface contamination (such as water, oil, dust) is often a cause of slip accidents. Therefore regular cleaning to remove contamination can reduce accidents. By creating a barrier to the concrete substrate floor, the oil and grease will sit on the new floor surface and not permeate through; hence being able to be cleaned up.
Dramatically Transformed
When approached by High Street Garage, Princes Risborough Buckinghamshire to look at their 250 square meter vehicle workshop, we found the workshop floor was very old. Having never been treated, the floor was very contaminated with oil and grease that had built up over many years.
The floor required diamond grinding to remove oil, dirt and grease, to thoroughly clean and prepare existing concrete surfaces ready for the epoxy coating flooring system. Areas of localised damaged concrete such as cracks, required an epoxy mortar compound and epoxy resin filler. Additionally, due to moisture readings taken showing readings between 215 to 225, one coat of Resdev Pumaprime oil tolerant epoxy resin primer was also applied to prevent moisture and oil residue permeating the surface.
Two coats of Resdev Pumatect high build epoxy resin in the clients chosen light grey. In order to meet Health & Safety standards, a 100mm wide demarcation band in Resdev safety yellow Pumatect V high build epoxy resin was applied around pit and rolling road area.
Another Happy Customer
Completed in just 3 days, the new epoxy resin coating system dramatically transformed an old workshop into a bright, clean and pleasing workshop to customers. The owner of High Street Garage, Karl Kerstow, said, “The new workshop epoxy floor has transformed our workshop. I didn’t think PSC Flooring Ltd would get the floor as good as this, we are delighted with their service. The resin floor has transformed an old, dark, unattractive workshop into a new clean, attractive, bright workshop that we can be proud of.”
