Food Grade Flooring

Food grade flooring is the normal choice of floor for bakeries, sugar confectionery, dairies, breweries including beer and cider production, wines, spirits and and whisky distilling, maltings, butchers, meat, poultry and fish processing, slaughterhouses / abattoirs, fruit and vegetable processing, food warehousing and distribution, restaurants, commercial kitchens and food manufacturers.

The Right Flooring for Food Factories

PSC Flooring Ltd install thousands of square metres of food grade flooring every year for the food processing and manufacturing sector. The normal choice of floor for this sector, is a heavy-duty polyurethane screed, either 6mm or 9mm thick. Polyurethane RT and HF screeds offer the maximum anti slip properties. Polyurethane screed floors are very durable and offer excellent thermal protection. They are designed to be impervious and withstand organic acids, which are very common within Food production, therefore, making them ideal in Food Factories, giving manufactures and distributors alike total confidence in the floor.

    Hotting Up

Food production flooring can be subject to extremes of heat therefore, any floor must be thermal shock resistant, especially near the ovens. Polyurethane screed floors are very durable and offer excellent thermal protection able to withstand direct temperatures up to 120 degrees or up 130 degrees at 12mm.

    Food Grade Flooring

    Chemical Protection

Some ingredients are acidic by nature, and will, if unchecked, slowly corrode concrete. Polyurethane resin screed systems offer the best chemical protection. They are designed to be impervious and withstand organic acids, which are very common with bakery and beer production.

    Wet Production

Wet production areas in the food processing industry can be subject to milk, grease, fat and water especially in cheese and dairy production. Polyurethane resin screeds offer excellent slip resistance in the wet and can be laid to falls to help drainage helping to meet high health and safety standards.

    Food Grade Flooring

    Hygienic

All food production floors must be hygienic and hence polyurethane resin screed systems are ideal. Offering a seamless finish, polyurethane resin can be complemented by coving and render, to allow for a smooth transition from wall to floor that does not support bacteria and microbial growth.

    Food Grade Flooring

    Hardwearing

Food grade epoxy coating is extremely hard wearing and robust. Even in the most arduous environments. This product is the most hard wearing on the market and designed to withstand impact, abrasion and chemical spillages. As a result, making it perfect for food factory flooring.

    Food Grade Flooring

Advantages of installing a polyurethane resin floor in a brewery:

    • Chemically resistant – designed to be impervious and withstand organic acids
    • Easily cleanable – can be steamed cleaned to 120 degrees at 9mm thick
    • Very hard wearing – can withstanding heavy loads
    • Hygienic & seamless – does not support bacteria and microbial growth
    • Can be laid to falls – to help drainage
    • Anti-slip in wet and dry working conditions

    Health & Safety first

Hygiene, safety and longevity are amongst the most important factors when selecting any new flooring for food processing industries. Polyurethane screed flooring is seamless, impervious and do not support microbial growth, so they are easy to clean and maintain. Food grade floors are consistently subjected to spillages and water due to constantly being cleaned down. It is vital that even in the wet that a certain level of slip resistance is met. That is why the polyurethane screed is excellent in this environment as it has inbuilt anti slip properties. Available in a multitude of colours to colour code workstations and incorporate corporate branding, our anti-slip flooring can increase safety and provide an attractive finish.

    Complete the job with Coving

Keeping the risk of food contamination low in the food industry is tough. It is recommended that a 100mm high coving is added to food safe screed flooring to create a link between the wall to floor finish. Coving is a seamless connection between the floor and the wall/ vertical surface creating “one surface”. The addition of coving allows the floor material to extend seamlessly up the walls – it is recommended that a 100mm high coving is added to food safe screed flooring to create a link between the wall to floor finish and equipment toe-kicks (toe kick/floor junctures).

Coving is a curved, sealed finish, that allows for easy cleaning, and provides no room for bacteria to grow. The seamless cove is easy to clean and maintain. Coving is applied to floors with resin and polyurethane seal.

    What Advantage Does Coving Give?

The addition of coving allows the floor material to extend seamlessly up the walls. Therefore, leaving dirt, dust, and germs with no place to hide.
