Mayfield Laboratories – Engineering & Manufacturing Flooring
PSC were invited by Mayfield Laboratories, contract manufacturers to the cosmetics and toiletries industry, to look at a production area totalling 246 square meters in their facility in Tiverton, Devon. Moreover, Mayfield Laboratories is part of Natural Looks Trading Ltd., which owns a successful and expanding chain of international retail outlets.
Mayfield Laboratories Brief and Recommendations
To begin, at the site visit, it was noted that the floor itself had coats of failed floor paint that would need to be removed before any final surface could be installed. In addition, Mayfield Laboratories explained that they wanted a hard wearing, impact resistant, fully chemical resistant, smooth resin floor, that would be easy to clean and would last for many years. Therefore, PSC recommended installing a FeRFA type 7, nominal 4mm Resdev Pumadur MD polyurethane screed.
In Preparation
We thoroughly cleaned and prepared the 250 square meter area for the MD polyurethane screed using a captive, enclosed double-headed diamond grinding machine and a handheld 110v diamond grinder.
Afterward, we vacuumed the area to remove all residues and dust. Then, we made 6mm x 6mm saw cuts around drains, door entrances, and other areas where it was necessary to toe in and anchor the screed.
Nominal 4mm heavy duty Resdev MD Polyurethane Screed totalling 246 sq mtrs
Firstly, an epoxy resin priming system was laid; this incorporated a heavy scatter of 0.7 to 1.2mm quartz aggregate to create grip for the nominal 4mm screed.
Then, the 246 square meter area was masked out with a nominal 4mm Resdev Pumadur MD, heavy duty polyurethane screed. Also, the clients chosen colour was mid grey with a smooth matt finish.
Finally, 6mm x 6mm saw cuts were made to reintroduce expansion joint with polyurethane jointing compound, to 27 linear metres.
